Spay & Neuter Program

Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program for Low-Income Families in Cherokee County

The Humane Society of Cherokee County (HSCC) sponsors a spay/neuter program for cats and dogs of residents of Cherokee County only.
The program is open to pet owners who have a total household income of up to $40,000.00 per year.  Proof of income must be provided.
Pet owners must be prepared to pay their part of the cost on the day of the appointment and the payment must be made to the veterinarian doing the procedure.
If you have a cat or dog to be spayed or neutered, fill out and submit the form below and someone from the HSCC will contact you.   If you have questions about the program, call 918-457-7997 and leave your name and number or send an email to humanecherokeecounty@gmail.com.

You must have a phone that accepts VOICE CALLS  and that box must not be FULL .

Other options for having your pet spayed/neutered are listed below our form.  You will need to contact each of the organizations for their requirements for participation in their program.

Currently, there are three other options to help low-income Oklahomans to spay/neuter their pets:

(1) Oklahoma Veterinarian Medical Association Pet Over Population Control Program

The following will qualify a person for the OKVMA program; you must send a copy of your letter or card along with your application:

  • a Medicaid (not Medicare) care card

  • Social Security Award Letter (this is the original letter you get when you go on Social Security that says “NOTICE OF AWARD” and it is the only Social Security document they will accept)

  • an EBT Card (food stamp card) plus a recent Notice of Certification

  • a letter from DHS stating what type of assistance you receive and confirming low income

  • a current Sooner Care health card

Download and print application.

The OKVMA issues denials throughout the month but they only send out letters of approval around the end of the month. Once you receive your approval letter, you must have your pet altered within 15 days of the date of the approval letter. Local veterinarians that participate in the OKVMA program are Dr. Elliott (456.8281), and Dr. Horn (453.2655).

(2) Spay Oklahoma
This is a (mostly) privately funded program to spay and neuter dogs & cats for families that earn less than $40,000 a year (there is a sliding scale). The basic cost is $40 for adult dogs and $30 for cats. Kittens and puppies under 5 months old are 1/2 price and they will fix them as young as 8 weeks old. They will spay and neuter animals from anywhere in Oklahoma but you have to drive to Tulsa to have the procedure done.
